In a landscape such as the Bay of Boka Kotorska, a great challenge can be the construction of a building beyond a traditional "recipe". It's like growing up in a diverse ethnic surrounding where your differences are not accepted and understood very well. In that situation, we should celebrate the differences and today, with all social, economic and technological development, we must think about such structure which will reflect the present, but without endangering the "spirit" of the existing natural and built environment - "genius loci".
House "Vila Stoliv" is placed at an inaccessible terrain in a little fishing village Stoliv, 8 km from old town Kotor in Boka Kotorska bay and opposite the settlement Perast. This position provides impressive views and this was a key impact on creating the form of the house.
Studious and careful approach to all aspect and needs of the environment and contemporary society gave us the wanted goal, which is reflected in a contemporary and ''purified'' expression of the house. So, the architecture of this house is a product of a deep analysis of location and demands of investor "Pluto Capital doo", to create an original design with the accent on mentioned vistas. All these aspects are incorporated in a formal expression of "seashell", which is "opening" to the views, creating a unique space, both in interior and exterior. The unique design approach is implemented in two aspects. Firstly, radial stone walls create three primary parts, which are functionally and structurally parts of the house and secondly big glass surfaces which bring the environment inside creating a subtle mix of inner and outer space.
Positioning the house of 424.5 square meters onto the very inaccessible terrain, was a great challenge for us and also gave us the opportunity to create several interesting and quality ambients in landscape design.
Villa Stoliv has a basement, ground floor, and first floor. The basement provides two parking places, goods shed, laundry room and also gym and winery. A very interesting detail through all floors is the stairs that follow radial walls thus bringing dynamics in the interior.
The hallway at ground floor, where the main entrance is also, unfolds into a unique fluid space comprising of a living room, kitchen and dining room connected directly with the main terrace and pool. At the ground floor, there are also a toilet and Spa with sauna, wardrobe, and shower also connected with the pool. At the back of the ground floor are situated guest apartments with an independent entrance.
The first floor is defined like "night zone" with two bedrooms, a shared bathroom and one master bedroom with own wardrobe and bathroom. All three bedrooms are connected with a large terrace which is covered with automatic tarpaulin in one part.
