Villa Study Models (VSM)

Villa Study Models (VSM) is the inaugural exhibition of Villa Museum, organised by Villa Magazine. Conceived as a biennial curatorial programme, it is dedicated to architectural study models and presents the design process as an essential part of architectural culture.

At its centre is the villa—understood not simply as a residential building type, but as one of architecture's most productive laboratories for experimentation. Throughout modern architectural history, villas have provided architects with exceptional freedom to explore new spatial ideas, material strategies, and ways of living.

Rather than viewing study models as temporary working tools, Villa Study Models recognises them as cultural artefacts that document architectural thought in its earliest stages. Unlike finished presentation models, they reveal processes of exploration, revision, and discovery, making visible the ideas that shape architecture before it is built.

The inaugural exhibition will present study models for realised villas, conceptual projects, pavilions, experimental houses, and future residential prototypes.
